It's absolutely possible to start learning 3-note chords from a very young age, if you use the proper instructional materials, (see the illustration below).

The 2+1 Chord Exercise

G chord for Beginners

In the sheet music example directly above, your left hand pinky and thumb play the top and bottom notes of the G major chord, (the G and D), followed by your 3rd finger playing the middle note, (the B).

  • This 2+1 Chord Exercise is a good way to start playing 3-note major and minor chords if you find it difficult to play all 3 notes at the same time - which is the ultimate goal - but some times you have to work your way up to that.

Once you've done the 2+1 a couple of times, then try to play all 3 notes together at the same time. However, you want to do this without taking your hand off the keyboard.

  • The purpose of playing two notes together and then adding the middle note, is to get your hand in the proper position.

Once your hand is in position, playing all 3 notes of the chord at the same time is much easier.

Chord Training

Very few piano teachers focus on chords, but when it comes to gaining a complete understanding of music, it's essential to develop a thorough knowledge of chords!

  • To do this you need to know the letter names of the chords, as well as the notes that make up each chord.

My course was designed specifically to help you develop a thorough knowledge of the most common chords in popular music - and you'll do it very easily, (see example below).

Four C Chords

There are literally hundreds of illustrations in my E-book, and hundreds more on our web page tutorials.

  • Each illustration is meticulously created, like the one directly above, to make the learning process clear, concise, enjoyable, and most importantly, effective!

I know that doesn't sound all that exciting, but no one wants to invest their time or money into something that doesn't work - which is why I've uploaded the music app tutorials to this page so you can try Piano Secrets for yourself.

Proper Fingering

Since there are no set hand positions for piano players, proper fingering is essential.

Song One - RH Melody - Fingering

In the illustration above, you will see a number above and below certain notes. These numbers inform the performer of the proper fingering, thereby making your playing smoother and more fluent.

Melody Training - RH ONLY

In the two video tutorials below, I will teach you the right hand melody to Song One from my e-book and the D major chord.

Each video tutorial provides a full size keyboard at the bottom of the viewer screen, thereby allowing you to see exactly where each note is to be played.

I suggest that you spend at least 3 to 5 days on each of the three tutorials above before moving on to the next two tutorials.

Both Hands Together

The following two tutorials will teach you to play Song One with both hands together. However, each tutorial offers different tools to control the playback.

I recommend using both to find out which one works best for you. All of our online video lessons contain both tutorials.

Develop Your Skills

Develop Skills - 2

Most piano methods teach you songs where the left hand is always different.

  • This can be frustrating for a lot of students, because it doesn’t provide the opportunity to get consistent practice on a specific set of musical skills.

In my method, the left hand chords will stay the same for some time, which will give you a lot of practice on the same 2 or 3 chords, and allow you to master them before moving on to the next group of chords or skill set.
