Lesson #10 - Rhythmical Melody
G Position

Rhythm & Melody: The key to playing a more complex rhythmical melody line is to simply listen to very small portions of a song at any one time.

Your Piano Instructor

Teaching simple songs gives students the opportunity to learn more complex chords and rhythms without a whole lot of hand movement.

Once you get comfortable with 2- and 3-chord songs, then you can start learning the songs that you really want to play...and that will be much sooner than you might think. - Guy

 How To Learn Songs!

In this lesson you'll be taking the rhythms you learned in the previous lesson and applying them to a more complex melody line.

  • The general layout of this lesson is how you will be learning songs starting in Lesson 11.

Steps 2 through 5 will teach 1 measure of melody along with the chords associated with that measure.

  • As your skills grow, you'll gradually progress to learning 2 measures at a time, and then 3 and 4 measures at a time.

  • Learning small portions of a song will reduce frustration and increase your productivity!
